Carlos Aliaga

I'm a senior research scientist at Meta Reality Labs Research since 2019, working on physically based inverse and forward rendering of virtual humans. Prior to that, I was a Lead Scientist at SEDDI Labs, a start-up based in Madrid aiming to create photorealistic virtual replias of real garments.

I got my Ph.D. in the Graphics & Imaging Lab at University of Zaragoza, Spain, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Diego Gutiérrez and Dr. Adrian Jarabo. My research focused on the perception and modeling of virtual humans. During this time, I interned at Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2014 and 2016, and Technicolor in 2016. I also had a short stay as a research engineer at Porto’s Science Faculty in 2012.

Publications

My work lies at the intersection of computer graphics and computer vision, focusing on modeling and reconstruction of humans (shape and especially appearance), leveraging physically-based forward and inverse rendering techniques often supported by AI solutions.
